Indonesia NIK (KTP) validator.
Check a 16-digit Nomor Induk Kependudukan (NIK) and read the province, birth date and gender it encodes. Runs in your browser. Format only.
How it works: digits 1-6 are the registration area (province, regency, district), digits 7-12 are the birth date as DDMMYY with 40 added to the day for women, and digits 13-16 are a serial number.

How a NIK is built
| Digits | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 1-2 | Province code |
| 3-4 | Regency or city code |
| 5-6 | District code |
| 7-12 | Birth date DDMMYY (women: day + 40) |
| 13-16 | Serial number |
The first six digits describe the area of registration, which is not always the birthplace. The two-digit year does not say the century, so both are tested.
Format only, not verification
The NIK has no published check digit. A pass shows the structure is consistent, not that the number was issued. Regency and district codes are not looked up. Provincial codes are checked against the current list of 38 provinces.
Confirm it with the issuer
To check that a number really exists, use the official service: Direktorat Jenderal Kependudukan dan Pencatatan Sipil (Dukcapil). This page never contacts it and does not pass your number to it.
Sources
- Government Regulation 37/2007 (Article 37, NIK structure), as cited by Indonesian press
- Dukcapil, Kemendagri
The regulation text was not opened directly; the structure (6 area digits, 6 date digits with +40 for women, 4 serial digits) was taken from press reports citing it and Dukcapil sources. Province codes follow the Ministry of Home Affairs list as commonly published; verify against the current Kepmendagri.
Frequently asked questions
What do the 16 digits of a NIK mean?
Province, regency and district codes, then the birth date with 40 added to the day for women, then a four-digit serial.
Why is a woman’s day above 40?
Women have 40 added to the day of birth, so 15 March appears as 55.
Can this tool confirm my KTP is valid?
No. Only Dukcapil can verify a NIK. This checks structure only.
Format only — not a registry lookup
This tool checks the number entirely in your browser. It does not query any government register and does not imply official verification. A matching pattern is not proof that the number was ever issued or belongs to anyone. An ID number is personal data: nothing you type is transmitted, stored or logged, but use a sample number where you can.
