Validar cédula y RUC: enter a 10-digit Ecuadorian cedula or a 13-digit RUC. The tool applies the province rule, the third-digit rule and the check digit that matches the number type. Nothing is uploaded or looked up.
How it works: a cedula has a 2-digit province code (01-24, plus 30 and 50), a third digit of 0-6, and a modulo 10 check: digits at odd positions are doubled (subtracting 9 if over 9), added to the others, and the last digit makes the total a multiple of 10. A RUC is 13 digits: a person’s RUC is the cedula plus a 3-digit establishment number; a company or public-sector RUC uses a modulo 11 check on its first 9 or 10 digits.

Worked example 171430710: the nine digits 1, 7, 1, 4, 3, 0, 7, 1, 0 times 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2 give 2, 7, 2, 4, 6, 0, 14, 1, 0; products over 9 lose 9 (14 becomes 5), so the sum is 2 + 7 + 2 + 4 + 6 + 0 + 5 + 1 + 0 = 27; the check digit is (10 − 27 mod 10) mod 10 = 3. The cedula is 1714307103.
What this does not tell you
We could not find these formulas published by the Registro Civil or the SRI, so they come from python-stdnum, which this tool is tested against. Province code 50 is accepted because python-stdnum accepts it. A valid result does not prove the number was issued or is active in the SRI register.

Frequently asked questions
What is the third digit for?
In a cedula it must be 0-6. In a RUC it tells the type: 0-5 for a person, 6 for the public sector, 9 for a private company.
Is a person’s RUC just their cedula?
It is the 10-digit cedula followed by a 3-digit establishment number, usually 001.
Does a pass mean the RUC is active?
No. Check the SRI register for status.
