Uruguay cédula de identidad validator.

Validar cédula uruguaya: check the verifier digit of a Uruguayan cédula de identidad such as 1.234.567-2. It runs in your browser and does not query the identification directorate.

How it works: the cedula is padded to 7 digits with leading zeros, each digit is multiplied by 2, 9, 8, 7, 6, 3, 4, the products are added, and the verifier digit is (10 − (sum mod 10)) mod 10.

How the check works

Rules applied
PartWhat happens
1Left-pad the number to 7 digits
2Multiply by 2, 9, 8, 7, 6, 3, 4
3Add the products
4Verifier = (10 − (sum mod 10)) mod 10

Worked example 1.234.567: 1×2 + 2×9 + 3×8 + 4×7 + 5×6 + 6×3 + 7×4 = 148; 148 mod 10 = 8; 10 − 8 = 2. The cedula is 1.234.567-2.

What this does not tell you

We could not find the verifier-digit formula published by Uruguay’s identification directorate, so the weights are the widely used ones published by the third-party source below and cross-checked by hand against 1.234.567-2. We could not find a public lookup by number, so this tool links to the Ministerio del Interior page only. A matching digit does not show a cedula was issued.

Frequently asked questions

Why do some cedulas have 6 digits before the verifier?

Older numbers are shorter. The calculation pads them with a leading zero to 7 digits first.

What are the weights 2987634?

They are the multipliers 2, 9, 8, 7, 6, 3, 4 applied to the 7 digits from left to right.

Can this confirm a cedula belongs to someone?

No. It checks only the verifier digit.

Format and check digit only — not an official lookup

This tool works entirely in your browser. A passing result does not prove that a number was issued, is active, or belongs to anyone, and it is not verification by any government. Nothing you type is transmitted, stored or logged.
