BC registry search: find a B.C. company.
A guide to the official BC Registry: what it covers, what to enter, and a checklist for confirming a business is registered in British Columbia.
Short answer: Use BC Registries’ Business and Person Search or OrgBook BC to see whether a business is registered. Coverage differs by entity type, so check the table below.
Check a number’s format
This is a shape check that runs in your browser. It does not look anything up and nothing you type is transmitted anywhere.
Search the official register
The BC Registry is the authority on whether a business is registered in British Columbia. This page does not copy or proxy registry data and cannot verify anyone.
What the official sources say
- Business and Person Search (bcregistry.gov.bc.ca) covers benefit companies, active cooperative associations, sole proprietorships and general partnerships.
- BC OnLine covers corporations, limited partnerships and societies and requires an account.
- OrgBook BC lets you look up whether a corporation is registered in B.C. and find “doing business as” names.
- In BC Registry number search every number takes an entity prefix except BC companies, where the prefix is optional: 0999999 returns the same results as BC0999999.
- Numbered companies are named in the prescribed format “1234567 B.C. Ltd.”. Fees for records are legislated, and owners can download their own business summary free from their BC Registry account.
Name notes
Numbered BC companies carry their incorporation number in the name, for example 1234567 B.C. Ltd. Search the number with or without the BC prefix.
Is this company registered in British Columbia? A checklist
- Search British Columbia’s official register (link above), not a third-party directory.
- Use the exact legal name from the contract, invoice or certificate. Then try shorter fragments.
- Confirm the legal name, entity type and status shown on the record match what you were given.
- Note whether the record is active or inactive, and the registered address.
- If you need formal proof, order the register’s certificate or summary rather than relying on a screenshot.
- Remember a CRA Business Number is a federal identifier. It does not by itself show registration in British Columbia.
