Alberta corporate registry search: how it works.
A guide to the official Alberta Corporate Registry: what it covers, what to enter, and a checklist for confirming a business is registered in Alberta.
Short answer: Alberta’s official page says registry agents provide the Corporate Registry search services. It does not link a public online search, so this guide sends you to the registry-agent finder.
Check a number’s format
This is a shape check that runs in your browser. It does not look anything up and nothing you type is transmitted anywhere.
Search the official register
The Alberta Registry is the authority on whether a business is registered in Alberta. This page does not copy or proxy registry data and cannot verify anyone.
What the official sources say
- You can request a search of Corporate Registry records for a current or formerly registered Alberta corporation, extra-provincial corporation, partnership, trade name or incorporated non-profit organization.
- Registry agents provide all of the listed search services.
- A registry agent charges a government fee and a service fee.
- Corporate Registry phone line: 780-427-7013, 8:15 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.
Name notes
Tell the agent whether you are checking an Alberta corporation, an extra-provincial corporation, a partnership or a trade name, since the records are held under different categories.
Is this company registered in Alberta? A checklist
- Search Alberta’s official register (link above), not a third-party directory.
- Use the exact legal name from the contract, invoice or certificate. Then try shorter fragments.
- Confirm the legal name, entity type and status shown on the record match what you were given.
- Note whether the record is active or inactive, and the registered address.
- If you need formal proof, order the register’s certificate or summary rather than relying on a screenshot.
- Remember a CRA Business Number is a federal identifier. It does not by itself show registration in Alberta.
