Worked example

Everyone ready by 11:00 with a 30-minute buffer. Four party members (45 min hair, 40 min makeup) and the bride (75 min hair, 60 min makeup, last). Two hair artists and one makeup artist. Hair first, then makeup, is the shorter order: the morning runs 4 h 25 min, so the first chair starts at 06:05 and the last service ends at 10:30. Makeup first would take 4 h 55 min. The single makeup artist is the bottleneck: the bride's makeup runs 09:30 to 10:30.

How it works

Each person needs one hair slot and one makeup slot, never at the same time, each with one artist. The tool tries two plans, hair then makeup and makeup then hair, assigns each person to the first artist who is free, and keeps the plan that finishes sooner. People are served in the order party first and bride last (or bride first if you tick the box).

Start time = ready-by time minus the buffer minus the length of the plan. If that lands before midnight the result says "previous day".

Estimate, not a promise. Real artists run over, travel between rooms and prefer to do the bride at a set point. The minutes are yours; ask your artist how long each look takes and add a buffer you trust. The shorter-order choice and the greedy assignment are a planning aid, not the only workable plan.

Sources and basis (checked 2026-10-08): arithmetic on the times, artist counts and buffer you enter; no external standard applies.

FAQ

What time should wedding hair and makeup start?

It depends on the party size, how long each look takes and how many artists there are. Enter your numbers and the tool counts back from the time everyone must be ready.

How long does wedding hair and makeup take?

There is no standard. Use the minutes your artist quotes for each service, and add a buffer. The tool does not assume any.

Why does the best order change?

The single-artist stage is a bottleneck that runs back to back in either plan. What differs is the wait before that stage can start and the work left after it ends for the last person. Which order is shorter depends on your minutes, so the tool tries both and shows the shorter one.

Should the bride go first or last?

Many brides go last so the look is freshest for photos, others go first so the day is not rushed. Tick the box to try either.

Does it book appointments or store anything?

No. It runs in your browser and nothing is sent or saved.
