Worked example
Six guests, two stylists, each guest needs 45 minutes hands-on, 30 minutes processing and 30 minutes to finish. One guest alone takes 105 minutes and the stylists put in 450 hands-on minutes in all, so no plan can finish in under 225 minutes. The tool schedules the group in 225 minutes (3 h 45 min): arriving at 09:00, the last guests finish at 12:45.
How it works
Each guest goes through three parts: hands-on A with a stylist, processing P with no stylist needed, then hands-on B. Stylists are assigned guest by guest: when a stylist is free, they either finish a guest whose processing is done or start a waiting guest. Two such policies are tried and the shorter day is shown.
Processing time is the time the product needs, not a limit. This schedule can leave a guest waiting after processing is done. For colour, lightener, perm or relaxer, follow the product directions and your stylist, and do not let a product stay on longer than directed. Add stylists or stagger arrivals if the wait is too long.
The shortest possible line is the larger of one guest's full appointment and the total hands-on minutes divided by the number of stylists, rounded up. Real days run longer for breaks, shampoo bowl queues, touch-ups and late arrivals, so add slack.
All minutes are your inputs, taken from the salon's quote. This is a planning aid, not a booking.
Sources and basis (checked 2026-10-08): arithmetic and a simple scheduling rule on the minutes and counts you enter; no external standard applies.
FAQ
How long will a group hair appointment take?
It depends on the service, the number of guests and how many stylists work at once. Enter the salon's minutes for each part and the tool schedules the group.
How many stylists do I need?
Raise the stylist count until the group finishes by the time you want. The shortest-possible line shows the best any plan could do.
What is processing time?
Time when the guest must sit but the stylist is free, such as colour developing. Use 0 for cuts and blow-dries.
Can a guest wait after processing is finished?
Yes.
Can this plan a wedding party?
For a hair and makeup party with separate artists, the wedding morning schedule fits better. This tool is for one kind of stylist doing all parts.
