Washington WSBA legal directory lookup.
To verify a Washington lawyer, use the WSBA Legal Directory. This page explains the license number, the status labels and the limits of the Discipline Notice Directory.
Use the official register for the answer: the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) record is authoritative, and this page cannot confirm anyone’s licence or standing. Open the register below, compare the details with the person who contacted you, and confirm with the regulator if anything does not match.
How the WA register is searched and what it shows
How the register is searched:
- The directory’s quick lookup has fields for license number, first name and last name, plus an option to include similar-sounding names.
What the regulator says it shows:
- The WSBA describes the directory as a convenience for finding contact, license and public discipline information for licensed legal professionals.
- The WSBA’s legal directory reference defines the statuses. For example “Suspended – Discipline” means ineligible to practise law in Washington for a specified period due to a disciplinary sanction.
Verify a lawyer in Washington
The register belongs to the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA). Open it, search for the person, and treat its record as the authoritative answer.
The wsba license number in Washington
The WSBA calls it the license number. The WSBA’s online grievance form directs complainants to the Legal Directory to find a lawyer’s license number and full name. The pages reviewed state no fixed digit length.
Where to find discipline records
A separate Discipline Notice Directory is linked from the Legal Directory. The WSBA’s booklet “Lawyer Discipline in Washington” explains the process: the Washington Supreme Court delegates operation of the system to the WSBA’s Office of Disciplinary Counsel, Disciplinary Board and hearing officers, and only the Supreme Court can suspend or disbar a lawyer.
Limits to keep in mind
- The WSBA says the directory is not a historical compilation of everyone ever licensed in Washington; former members who do not appear should be looked up through the WSBA’s Public Records page.
- The WSBA states that it does not make referrals to licensed legal professionals and that results are not an endorsement.
This page does not validate a number’s format or check a number against any list; only the official register can do that.
