Texas bar number lookup.
To verify a Texas lawyer, use the State Bar of Texas Find a Lawyer directory. This page explains what a profile shows and how the State Bar treats disciplinary information.
Use the official register for the answer: the State Bar of Texas record is authoritative, and this page cannot confirm anyone’s licence or standing. Open the register below, compare the details with the person who contacted you, and confirm with the regulator if anything does not match.
How the TX register is searched and what it shows

What the regulator says it shows:
- Profiles carry the attorney’s bar card number, Texas license date, primary practice location and law school.
- The State Bar says any public disciplinary history is listed on the attorney’s online profile along with recent public judgments.

The bar card number in Texas
Texas calls it the “bar card number” and shows it on the attorney’s profile. The State Bar pages reviewed do not state a fixed digit length, so confirm by opening the profile and checking the name.
Where to find discipline records
Public disciplinary history appears on the profile. Copies of older public disciplinary judgments can be obtained from the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel, which the State Bar says to contact by writing to judgmentscdc@texasbar.com.
Limits to keep in mind
- The State Bar says the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel must keep disciplinary case information confidential unless it has been filed in district court or resulted in a public sanction.
- The existence of a pending grievance is confidential, so a clean profile does not mean no complaint exists.
This page does not validate a number’s format or check a number against any list; only the official register can do that.
