Use the printhead’s native dots-per-millimetre geometry
The profiles marketed as 203, 300, and 600 DPI use 8, 12, and 24 dots/mm, equivalent to 203.2, 304.8, and 609.6 dots per inch. The calculation uses those native values. A printhead cannot address a fraction of a dot, so the selected rounding method can change the physical size slightly; this page reports that error on each edge.
Zebra documents label width as a value in dots, a minimum ^PW width of two dots, and warns that a width set beyond the media can print onto the platen. Check the exact print width, firmware command language, and media calibration for your printer before production.
