How Ti-Hi is calculated
Ti is the number of cartons in one layer and Hi is the number of layers. For each carton face that may sit down, the tool builds layers three ways: every carton turned one way, every carton turned the other way, and a simple row layout that fills one block of the pallet in one orientation and the remaining rows in the other. It keeps the layer with the most cartons (Ti), then sets Hi = the smaller of floor((max loaded height − pallet height) ÷ carton height) and floor(max payload ÷ (Ti × carton weight)). Cases per pallet = Ti × Hi. Pallets for an order = order quantity ÷ cases per pallet, rounded up; the last pallet carries the remainder.
What this model does not solve
This is axis-aligned rectangular packing only: no pinwheel or interlocking patterns beyond the two-block row layout, no overhang, no diagonal or irregular cartons, no compression or crush strength, no stability, stretch-wrap, or slip-sheet allowance. A real mixed-pattern optimizer can occasionally beat the count shown here. Confirm any load with your carrier, warehouse and customer before shipping.
Pallet presets and sources
The 1200 × 800 mm preset uses the EPAL Euro pallet figures published by EPAL: 800 × 1200 × 144 mm, 1,500 kg load capacity, about 25 kg empty weight (epal-pallets.org, EPAL Euro pallet, read 2026-09-30). The 48 × 40 in preset is only the nominal footprint (48 in = 1,219.2 mm; 40 in = 1,016 mm); it carries no height or weight rating, so enter your own pallet height, height limit and payload. Presets can be edited after selection.
