Converting decimal hours to hours and minutes
One hour is 60 minutes, so 1 minute is 1/60 of an hour. To go from decimal hours to minutes, multiply by 60. To go the other way, divide minutes by 60. The whole number part of a decimal time is the hours, and the part after the point times 60 is the minutes.
Worked example. 7.75 hours: 0.75 x 60 = 45, so 7:45. 2.4 hours: 0.4 x 60 = 24, so 2:24. In reverse, 7 hours 20 minutes is 440 minutes, and 440 / 60 = 7.3333, shown as 7.33.
Rounding. Minutes are rounded to the nearest whole minute, so 1.999 hours shows as 2:00. Decimal hours are shown to two places, which is accurate to within about 0.3 minute. A tenth of an hour is exactly 6 minutes and a hundredth is 0.6 minute.
