About this SRT to VTT converter

SRT (SubRip) is the plain format most editors and download sites use. WebVTT is the W3C format the HTML5 <track> element and most web players require. The two are close, which is why conversion is mostly mechanical, but the details below are where hand conversions go wrong.

Shifting timings

Enter seconds to move every cue later (positive) or earlier (negative), for example 2.5 when the subtitles run 2.5 seconds early. Times never go below zero; cues that would end before the start are removed and the page tells you how many.

Limits

Files up to 5 MB. Both short-hour forms (01:02.500 in VTT) and full forms are read. Block positions or colours in SRT variants such as {\an8} are left in the text, not translated into WebVTT settings.

FAQ

Why does my video player need VTT instead of SRT?

The HTML5 <track> element only accepts WebVTT. Converting your .srt to .vtt and pointing the track's src at it is enough for most players.

Do I lose any formatting when converting VTT to SRT?

Positioning, alignment, styles and speaker voice tags are lost because SRT cannot store them. Timings and text are kept.

Is my subtitle file uploaded?

No. Conversion happens in your browser.
