The CRA says a resident’s room starts to accumulate when they turn 18. The TFSA began in 2009, so everyone born in 1991 or earlier starts in 2009. Room is added every 1 January, so the $7,000 for 2026 is already counted for anyone who is 18 in 2026.
2027: as of 18 October 2026 the CRA limits table lists no 2027 TFSA dollar limit (the cell is blank, although the 2027 RRSP limit is shown). This page uses 2026 figures and will be updated once the CRA publishes the 2027 limit.

How much TFSA room do I have if I was born in 1990?
Up to $109,000 through 2026 if you have lived in Canada since 2009, the same as anyone born in 1991 or earlier, because room cannot start before the TFSA began in 2009. Subtract contributions and add back earlier withdrawals.
What year does TFSA room start?
The year you turn 18, according to the CRA, or the day you become a resident if you are already 18 or older. The earliest year is 2009. Someone born in 2008 gets room for 2026.
Does TFSA room depend on my birth year or birth date?
Only the year matters for the annual limit. The full dollar limit is added for the year you turn 18 whatever your birthday.
What is the 2027 TFSA limit?
Not announced as of 18 October 2026. The CRA limits table has a blank TFSA cell for 2027. This page will be updated when the CRA publishes it.
