The CRA says a resident’s room starts to accumulate at 18, and a new resident aged 18 or older starts on the day they have residency. TFSAs began in 2009, so anyone who was already 18 then starts that year. For other years, see RRSP, TFSA and FHSA limits by year, or work out your own with the contribution room calculator.
Frequently asked questions
What is the TFSA limit for 2026?
The CRA table lists $7,000 for 2026, the same as 2024 and 2025. The table checked on 15 October 2026 runs through 2026.
What was the TFSA limit in 2015?
The CRA table shows $10,000 for 2015, between $5,500 in 2014 and $5,500 in 2016. That one-off year is why the running total jumps more than usual.
How much total room can I have?
Up to $109,000 through 2026 if you have been 18 or older and a resident of Canada for every year since 2009. Contributions reduce it and withdrawals from earlier years add back.
Where do I find my own room?
In CRA My Account or on your institution’s records. The CRA tells people to verify their room against their institution’s records before contributing, because CRA records are updated only after institutions report.
