Worked example
Start at 09:00 with three tasks and a 10-minute buffer between them: email (30 min), report (90 min) and review (45 min). Email runs 09:00 to 09:30, the report 09:40 to 11:10 and the review 11:20 to 12:05. That is 165 minutes of work plus 20 minutes of buffer, 185 minutes in all, finishing at 12:05.
How it works
Each task starts when the previous one ends plus the buffer. Finish = start + all task minutes + buffer x (tasks - 1). The buffer is not added after the last task. A schedule that runs past midnight is marked with +1d.
The planner lays tasks out in the order you list them and does not know about your existing calendar. To find the open gaps first, use the free slot finder, then place your tasks inside them.
A buffer of 0 packs the tasks back to back. If your tasks tend to overrun, estimate them with a range rather than a single number.
Sources and basis (checked 2026-10-08): arithmetic on the numbers you enter; no external rate is applied.
FAQ
What is time blocking?
Time blocking means assigning each task a fixed block of time in your day. This tool turns a list of tasks and durations into those blocks with start and end times.
How much buffer should I leave between tasks?
That depends on your work. The tool takes any buffer from 0 to 240 minutes and adds it between tasks, not after the last one.
Does it add up tasks that run past midnight?
Yes. Times after 24:00 are shown with +1d so you can see the plan spills into the next day.
Can I reorder the tasks?
The tasks are scheduled in the order of the list. Remove a task and add it again to move it to the end.
Does the planner know about my existing calendar?
No. It only uses what you enter. Nothing is read from or sent to a calendar.
