Worked example
A 30-day challenge, 10 days in, 2 days where you spent, and $15 a day usually spent. You have kept 8 days (80%), which is $120.00 not spent. At the same rate the full 30 days would keep about 24.0 days ($360.00). With a 90% target you can slip 3 days in total, so 1 slip left; you need 27 kept days in all, 19 more.
How it works
days kept = days so far - days you spent. Success rate = days kept / days so far. Money not spent = days kept x your typical daily spend. Projection = days kept + days left x success rate so far. Total slips allowed = length x (1 - target) rounded down; days needed = length x target rounded up.
The dollar figure is only as good as your estimate of what you would have spent. It is not money verified in a bank account.
Sources and basis (opened 2026-10-08): arithmetic on the numbers you enter. No prices, rates or national averages are assumed.
FAQ
What is a no-spend challenge?
A set number of days, often a month, where you spend nothing on non-essentials. What counts as essential is your own rule, such as rent, utilities and groceries.
How much will I save in a no-spend challenge?
It depends on your usual spending. If you skip $15.00 a day for 30 days with no slips you avoid $450.00.
How many slips can I afford?
Slips allowed = length x (1 - target). For 30 days and a 90% target that is 3 days.
Does the money I did not spend count as savings?
Only if you move it to savings. The tool shows the amount you chose not to spend, based on your estimate.
Can I still reach my target after a slip?
The tool shows how many more kept days you need and whether that is still possible in the days left. Here you need 19 more of the 20 days remaining.
