How many moving boxes do you need?

A home between 1,000 and 1,499 sq ft usually needs about 54 to 88 boxes in total. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK publishes box counts by square footage band, and this calculator applies the band for your home size and adds up the low and high ends.

Worked example. A 1,200 sq ft home falls in the 1,000 to 1,499 sq ft band: 10 to 20 large boxes, 15 to 25 medium boxes, 20 to 30 small boxes, 4 to 6 dish barrels, 5 to 7 wardrobe boxes. That is 54 to 88 boxes. If you pay 3.00 per large box, 2.50 per medium, 2.00 per small, 12.00 per dish barrel and 15.00 per wardrobe box (illustrative prices, not quotes), the cost runs from 230.50 to 359.50.

Reading the range. The counts are the source's ranges for a home of that size. As a common rule of thumb, not a published standard, book-heavy, kitchen-heavy or closet-heavy homes tend toward the top of a range and a sparse flat toward the bottom. In the 1,500 to 1,999 sq ft band the source page prints the dish barrel range as "5 - 97", which looks like a typo, so this tool uses 5 to 9. The source table skips exactly 2,000 sq ft; this tool puts it in the 2,000+ band. Square metres are converted at 1 m² = 10.7639 sq ft.
