Worked example
You book a cut every 6 weeks starting 5 January 2026, at $50 with no tip. The dates are 5 Jan, 16 Feb, 30 Mar and so on every 42 days; 9 appointments fall within the following 365 days, the last on 7 December. 9 x $50 = $450 a year, or $37.50 a month. Adding a 20% tip makes each visit $60 and the year $540.
How it works
Dates = start date + n x (weeks x 7) days, for as long as the date is within 365 days of the start. cost per visit = price + price x tip % + extras; yearly cost = cost per visit x number of visits; monthly = yearly / 12. Dates use noon UTC so daylight-saving changes never shift a day.
How often should you cut? There is no official interval; it depends on your style and goals. A buzz cut or fade looks tidy for only a few weeks, a short cut or taper needs about four, a bob around six to eight, and long layers can wait ten or more. If you are growing hair out, trims every 12 weeks or so remove split ends without costing much length. Hair grows roughly half an inch (about 1.25 cm) a month on average, so a gap of 6 weeks is about three-quarters of an inch of growth. The presets are common stylist advice; set your own weeks.
Sources and basis (checked 2026-10-05): arithmetic on the figures you enter; average growth rate from the American Academy of Dermatology, how hair grows. Style gaps are typical stylist advice, not a standard.
FAQ
How often should I get a haircut?
It depends on the style: about every 3 weeks for a buzz cut or fade, 4 for a short cut, 6 to 8 for a bob, and 10 or more for long layers. There is no official rule, so use your own goals.
How much do haircuts cost per year?
Cost per visit x number of visits. Cuts every 6 weeks give 9 visits a year, so $50 a cut is $450 before tip.
How many haircuts is that in a year?
A gap of 4 weeks gives 14 visits, 6 weeks gives 9, 8 weeks gives 7, and 12 weeks gives 5 visits in 365 days, counting the first appointment.
Does the plan include the tip?
Yes, as a percent of the cut price. Set it to 0 to leave it out. Use the salon tip calculator for splitting between several stylists.
