Your year

Enter your own fees; none are assumed. Covered share applies to visit fees, prescriptions and procedures, not to travel or time. Prescription cost is per month of use. Set hourly value to 0 to leave your time out. How often you need a dermatologist is for you and your doctor to decide.

Worked example

Two visits a year at $150 with no coverage = $300.00. A $40 a month prescription used 12 months = $480.00. Travel of $15 a visit = $30.00. That is $810.00 in cash. Two visits of 2 hours at $25 an hour add $100.00 of time, so the all-in cost is $910.00 a year, $75.83 a month, $455.00 per visit. With 50% coverage on fees and prescriptions, the same year would cost $300.00 x 0.5 + $480.00 x 0.5 + $30.00 = $420.00 in cash.

How it works

cash = (visits x fee + prescription cost x months + procedures) x (1 - covered share) + visits x travel. All-in = cash + visits x hours x hourly value. Per month = all-in / 12. Per visit = all-in / visits.

The covered share is one percentage for fees, prescriptions and procedures. If a plan covers them differently, run the tool twice and add the results.

This tool is for budgeting. It is not medical or financial advice and does not say how many visits you need. If you are in Canada, the medical expense credit threshold calculator shows whether your costs clear the credit threshold.

Every figure is arithmetic on numbers you type. No prices, sizes or amounts are assumed, and nothing is sent or stored.

Sources: none needed. Fees, coverage, prescriptions and time are your own inputs.

FAQ

How much does a dermatologist cost per year?

It depends on your fees, your visits, any prescriptions and your coverage. Enter your own figures; the tool adds them up. In the example, two visits and a monthly prescription cost $810.00 in cash.

Should I count my time?

It is optional. Set the hourly value to 0 to leave it out, or enter what an hour of your time is worth to see the full cost.

What does the covered share apply to?

Visit fees, prescriptions and procedures. Travel and time are not reduced by it.

How often should I see a dermatologist?

This tool cannot say. That is a decision for you and your doctor.

Can I use this for a single treatment course?

Yes. Enter the visits, prescriptions and procedures for the course. The yearly figure then shows what the course costs on that basis.
