Shorts income

Shorts vs long-form earnings.

Put the same monthly views through both formats using your own revenue figures. See net pay for each, the gap between them, and how many months each takes to reach the payment threshold. Runs in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.

Shorts net = views / 1,000 x pool revenue x 45%. Long-form net = views / 1,000 x ad revenue x 55%. Both rates are yours to enter; the page just applies the published shares consistently.

Worked example

At 100,000 views a month with $0.06 for Shorts and $3.00 for long-form (both illustrative inputs), Shorts nets $2.70 a month and long-form nets $165.00. Against a $100 threshold that is 38 months for Shorts versus 1 month for long-form. The point is the mechanics, not the rates: change the rates to your own data.

How it works

Shorts are paid from a pooled allocation and creators keep 45%; watch-page ads pay 55% of net ad revenue. A "per 1,000 views" figure is not comparable across formats unless you know which side of the share it sits on, so each format has its own toggle. YouTube Analytics RPM is reported after YouTube's share, so tick that box if you copied it from there.

Months to first payout is the threshold divided by the monthly net, rounded up to whole months. AdSense then adds timing: earnings show in your balance around the 7th to 12th of the next month and are paid around the 21st to 26th, so real calendar time is longer.

Views are not equal: a long-form view can carry far more watch time and a Short view far less. Equal views is a deliberate simplification to isolate the revenue maths.

Methodology

All maths is plain arithmetic on the numbers in the form, run in your browser, with blank fields treated as zero and negative or non-numeric entries rejected. Published figures were read from the sources below in 2026-10; rates, RPMs, multipliers and probabilities are always inputs you control, never claims. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent or stored. Results come from the numbers you enter, not from your real account. Terms change: check each source before relying on a figure.

FAQ

Do Shorts or long videos pay more?

At equal views the usual difference is the rate per 1,000 views, which you enter. This tool applies the 45% and 55% shares so the comparison is consistent.

Is YouTube Analytics RPM before or after the share?

It is reported after YouTube's share. Tick the "already after" box when you copy that number.

How long until my first payout?

The threshold divided by net monthly earnings, in whole months, plus AdSense's payment timing.

What payment threshold applies?

AdSense lists $100 for US dollars and a different amount for other currencies. The field is editable.
