Clipping campaigns
Views needed for a clipping income target.
Set a monthly goal and the terms of a campaign. See the total views, clips per month and average views per clip the arithmetic requires.
Views needed = target / ((1 - fee) x approval x rate / 1,000 x (1 - haircut)). At a $3 rate with 100% approval and no haircut, $1,000 needs about 333,334 views.

Worked example
Target $1,000 a month, $3 per 1,000 views, 80% approval, 10% of views not counted, no fee. Each posted view is worth $3 / 1,000 x 0.9 x 0.8 = $0.00216. Dividing $1,000 by that gives about 462,963 posted views a month. At $1 per 1,000 the same goal needs three times as many. Those totals are not forecasts; they show how sensitive the answer is to the rate.
Methodology
The headline uses the simple formula, which ignores caps, minimums and flat fees. The clips-needed line uses your average views per clip and the full per-clip model. The views-per-clip line solves backwards at your clip pace: it removes the flat fee, divides by the rate, adds back the haircut, and raises the answer to the minimum when one applies. If the per-clip cap is below what the target needs at your pace, it reports not reachable.
Because pay can be zero below a minimum, a high average hides many clips that earn nothing. The calculator uses one average for every clip, so treat results as a rough ceiling on how views convert to dollars, not a plan.

Important
Results vary. Every figure on this page that depends on a campaign, a platform or your own audience is an assumption you enter or a clearly labelled example, not a promise of earnings or a typical result. Taxes (general information only)
Clipping pay is generally self-employment income in the United States, and self-employment tax can apply once net earnings reach the IRS threshold. See the IRS page on self-employment tax (retrieved 2026-10) and our 1099 tax set-aside calculator. This is not tax advice; confirm your situation with the IRS or a tax professional.

FAQ
How many views do I need to make $1,000 clipping?
It depends on the rate and your approval and haircut assumptions. At $3 per 1,000 with no haircut and 100% approval, about 333,334 views; at $1 per 1,000, about 1,000,000. Both are arithmetic, not a result anyone is owed.
Why do the headline and per-clip numbers differ?
The headline ignores cap, minimum and flat fee. The per-clip lines include them.
What if the target says not reachable?
The rate is $0, approval is 0%, or the cap limits each clip too much at your pace.
Can I reach the target faster?
Only by changing a real input: a higher campaign rate, more approved clips or more views per clip. This tool cannot predict which you will get.
