What Vine costs a seller
Amazon Vine sends free units of your product to selected reviewers, called Vine Voices, who then post reviews. Amazon's Vine page lists an enrollment fee per parent product, tiered by how many units you enrol: nothing for up to two units, then a flat fee for 3 to 10 units and a higher flat fee for 11 to 30. In the United States those fees are $75 and $200. The page also lists Canada (CAD 100 and 240), the UK (GBP 60 and 140), the EU (EUR 70 and 170) and Japan (JPY 10,000 and 22,000). There is no additional cost for child products, so a variation family pays once.
The fee is not the whole bill. The units themselves are free to the reviewer, which means you carry the stock cost and any fulfillment cost for every unit. Amazon's page does not say who pays for the units, so this tool treats them as your cost. That is why the calculator asks for your landed cost and your fulfillment cost per unit.
When the fee is charged
The page says you are not charged until 30 days after enrollment and after your first review is published. If you do not receive a Vine review within 90 days of enrollment, you are not charged the fee. The result therefore shows two totals: one where a review is published and the fee applies, and one where no review arrives and only the stock is lost.
Worked example
Five units in the US, each costing $8 landed plus $4 fulfillment, is $60 of stock. Five units fall in the 3 to 10 tier, so the fee is $75 and the total outlay with a published review is $135. If you assume three reviews are published, that is $45 per review. If none arrives within 90 days you do not pay the $75, and your outlay is the $60 of stock.
What this does not cover
- Whether a review will arrive, what it will say, or what it does to sales. The reviews field is your own scenario.
- Eligibility. Amazon decides which sellers and products qualify. The page mentions a Professional selling account ($39.99 a month plus selling fees); check Seller Central for the full requirements.
- Selling fees on the Vine units, which the Amazon page does not describe; enter any you expect in the fulfillment field.
- Currency conversion. Each marketplace is shown in its own currency.
- Fees changing after the date checked below.
Methodology
Total outlay with a review = enrollment fee + units × (landed cost + fulfillment cost). Total without a review = units × (landed cost + fulfillment cost). Cost per review = outlay with a review ÷ the reviews you enter. The 1 to 2 unit tier is shown as no fee in every marketplace, following the single "up to 2" row on Amazon's page.
