How to check, step by step
- Get the planner’s full name.
- Open CFP Board’s Verify a CFP Professional search.
- Enter the last name (required) and, optionally, first name, organization, city or state.
- Check that the person currently holds CFP certification and read any public disciplinary history.
- Cross-check FINRA BrokerCheck, SEC IAPD and your state securities regulator, as CFP Board recommends.
