What are the WhatsApp template character limits?
Meta’s WhatsApp Business Platform documentation sets these maximums for template components: header text 60 characters, body 1024 characters, footer 60 characters, button label 25 characters, button URL 2000 characters, call button phone number 20 characters and copy-code example 20 characters. A template with a text header can have only one header, and the header supports one parameter.
Counting. Meta states the limits in characters. This tool counts Unicode characters (an emoji counts as one) and counts the template exactly as you type it, including parameters like {{1}}. Meta does not say in the page we cite whether parameters are counted by their placeholder or by the sample value, so keep a margin when you are close to a limit.
Worked example. The sample body above is 66 characters, leaving 958. A header of Your order has shipped and is on the way to you is 47 characters and fits; adding another 14 characters passes 60 and the header would exceed the limit.
Limits can change. Check the current Meta documentation, and remember that approval depends on template category and content policies, not just length.
