Source

Used to check the self-reference and canonical. No request is made.
For a local reciprocity check across several pages, separate source blocks with <!-- hreflang-page: https://example.com/ca/ --> markers.

Privacy note: the checker runs in this browser. It does not crawl, upload, or contact the URLs you paste.

Audit

Paste a source and press Check hreflang.

What this checks

Language and region

Flags missing, duplicate, mis-cased, or unsupported language-region values. Google-compatible values look like en, en-CA, or x-default.

Cluster health

Checks x-default, the supplied page's self-reference, and reciprocal links when the pasted source contains multiple sitemap entries or marked HTML blocks.

Canonical alignment

Reads a canonical from pasted HTML only and flags non-absolute, mismatched, or query/fragment URLs. Canonicals should stay clean and page-specific.

Hreflang questions

Does this tool fetch my website?

No. Paste or upload source text. The tool never requests the page URLs, so it works with private staging pages and avoids sending your markup to a server.

Do I need all three formats?

No. Use the format your site publishes. HTML link elements, HTTP Link headers, and sitemap xhtml:link entries are alternate delivery methods; the language set should stay consistent.

Why does it warn about reciprocity?

Each regional page in a cluster should point to the other regional pages. Paste the related pages together, or paste a sitemap with several <url> entries, for a local return-link check.
