Meta tags analyzer: how it works and FAQ

What this tool checks

Paste your HTML and it reports the title and meta description with character counts, a search result preview, the canonical URL, robots and viewport tags, Open Graph and Twitter Card tags, and the number of JSON-LD blocks, then gives a pass/fail checklist. Use the meta tag generator to write fixes, the title tag checker for title-only checks, and the schema generator for JSON-LD.

What is a meta tags analyzer?

A meta tags analyzer reads the tags in a page's <head> (title, meta description, canonical, robots, Open Graph, Twitter Card, JSON-LD) and flags what is missing or likely to display badly in search results and social shares.

How long should a title tag and meta description be?

Google does not publish a fixed character limit. Titles and snippets are truncated by display width, so the 30-60 and 70-160 character ranges this tool uses are practical guidelines. Google may also rewrite either one. See Google's documentation on title links and snippets.

Does the meta description affect rankings?

Google has said the meta description is not a ranking factor, but it can be used as the snippet, so a clear one can improve click-through. The meta keywords tag is ignored by Google.

Why can't I enter a URL?

Browsers block one site from reading another site's HTML (CORS), and this tool sends nothing to a server. Paste the page source instead: nothing leaves your device.

What are Open Graph and Twitter Card tags?

They control the title, description and image shown when a link is shared on social platforms and messaging apps. og:title, og:description and og:image cover most cases; twitter:card sets the card layout.
