About QR code scanning
This reader decodes the QR code entirely on your device using your browser's canvas and camera APIs — the image or video frame never leaves your computer or phone. It supports the same structured formats the QR Code Generator creates: plain URLs and text, the WIFI: network-credential scheme, the vCard contact format, and mailto:, tel:, and sms: links.
Tips for a clean scan
- Camera: hold steady, fill the frame with the code, and make sure there's enough light. The scanner checks the video roughly five times a second.
- Uploaded photos: a straight-on, in-focus shot decodes far more reliably than an angled or blurry one.
- Damaged or low-contrast codes may not decode — QR error correction has limits, and a photo adds compression on top of that.
- Camera access requires HTTPS and browser permission. If it's blocked, use the upload option instead.
Recognized content types
- URL: shown as a clickable link.
- WiFi: network name, password, and security type broken out.
- vCard: name, organization, phone, email, and website broken out.
- Email, phone, SMS: shown as their target address/number/message.
- Anything else is shown as plain decoded text.
