QR code generator.

Make a QR code for a link, WiFi network, contact card, email, phone number or text message. It updates as you type, never expires, and downloads as PNG or SVG.

Standard: ISO/IEC 18004Static codes, no expiryRuns in your browser, no tracking

How to create a QR code

  1. Choose a type: URL, Text, WiFi, vCard, Email, Phone or SMS.
  2. Fill in the fields for that type, such as the website address or the network name and password.
  3. Pick the size and the error-correction level, and choose the colours.
  4. Press Generate QR code, then download the PNG or SVG.

Choosing settings that scan well

Higher error correction survives more damage or a logo overlay but makes the pattern denser, so use Low or Medium for clean digital uses and Quartile or High for print that may get scuffed. Keep strong contrast, dark modules on a light background, and leave the quiet border. SVG output scales to any size without blurring, which is the best choice for print; PNG is convenient for web and slides.

A WiFi code lets guests join with one tap without typing a password. A vCard code puts contact details into a phone's address book. URL codes should point to a stable address, since the printed code cannot be changed after the fact. This generator makes static codes: no scan tracking, no redirects and nothing that expires.

Created in your browser

The generator runs in your browser, inside an isolated frame on this page that has no network access. Your file is read and written back by your own device, so it is not uploaded to TNAADO or anyone else, and nothing is stored. The advertising on this page sits outside the frame and cannot see what you choose. Passwords and contact details you enter are never sent anywhere.

How to make a QR code

  1. Pick a type: URL, text, WiFi, vCard, email, phone or SMS.
  2. Fill in the fields. The preview updates as you type.
  3. Choose the error-correction level, size and margin (leave the margin at 4 for printing).
  4. Download SVG for print or PNG for screens, then test-scan it with your own phone before you publish.

Static codes: no expiry, no tracking

Every code made here is static. The data itself is encoded in the pattern, so scanning needs no account, no redirect and no subscription, and the code cannot be switched off. A dynamic code, by contrast, encodes a short link held by the provider that made it. The trade-off is that you cannot change a static code after printing: if the destination changes, make a new code. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

The QR code is defined by ISO/IEC 18004. Denso Wave, which invented it, states that anyone can use the QR code freely when following the JIS or ISO standard. Need to decode one? Use the QR code reader. To add a logo, use the QR code with logo tool. For one-dimensional labels, try the barcode generator.

QR code generator FAQ

Does this QR code expire, and is it really free?

It is free with no signup, and the code never expires. These are static QR codes: your data is written straight into the pattern, with no redirect through our server or anyone else's, so there is no account, scan limit or renewal. A code stops working only if the thing it points to (such as a website) goes away.

Do you track scans or store what I type?

No. The code is generated in your browser and nothing you type is sent to us. Because a static code holds your data itself, scanning it never touches this site, so scans cannot be counted or tracked. The trade-off is that you cannot edit a static code after printing it; make a new one instead.

How do I make a WiFi QR code?

Choose the WiFi tab, enter the network name and password, pick the security type and download the code. Phones that read WIFI: codes offer to join the network when scanned. Special characters such as ; : , " and \ in the name or password are escaped automatically. There is also a dedicated WiFi QR code generator.

How do I make a QR code for a URL?

Choose the URL tab and paste the address. If you leave off https:// it is added for you. Use a short, permanent address, because a static code cannot be edited after printing. See the URL QR code generator for tips.

Which error-correction level should I choose?

Denso Wave, the inventor of the QR code, lists four levels that can restore about 7% (L), 15% (M), 25% (Q) or 30% (H) of the code, and notes that M is the most frequently selected. Higher levels make a denser code, so use Q or H for printed codes that may get dirty or damaged, or when you place a logo over the centre, and L for clean screens and short data.

Should I download PNG or SVG?

Download SVG for print and signage because it is a vector and stays sharp at any size. Download PNG for slides, documents and web pages. Both files are made in your browser.

What does the margin setting do?

The margin is the blank border (quiet zone) around the code, counted in modules. Denso Wave notes that white space worth 4 modules is needed around a code, which is why 4 is the default. Cropping the border tighter can stop some scanners from reading it.
