Proof of funds, by family size.

Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades applicants must show settlement funds at or above IRCC's published threshold for their family size — separate from, and in addition to, your CRS score. This reads the exact current figure straight off IRCC's own table.

A single applicant needs $15,263. A family of four needs $28,362. Each additional family member beyond seven adds $4,112.

How the proof-of-funds requirement works

Express Entry candidates in the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) and Federal Skilled Trades (FST) programs must show they have enough money to support themselves and their family after arriving in Canada — on top of, and separate from, their CRS score. IRCC updates the required amount every year, calculated as 50% of Statistics Canada's low income cut-off (LICO) totals for each family size.

Two situations are exempt from this requirement: Canadian Experience Class (CEC) applicants never need to show settlement funds, and FSW/FST applicants are exempt if they currently have a valid job offer and are already authorized to work in Canada. Everyone else in FSW/FST must meet the threshold, funds must be readily available (not tied up in a locked investment, for example) and must remain available both when you apply and when you're issued permanent residence.

Frequently asked questions

Do Canadian Experience Class applicants need to show proof of funds?

No. CEC applicants are fully exempt from the settlement-funds requirement, regardless of family size.

Does having a job offer remove the requirement?

Only if you're an FSW or FST applicant with a valid job offer and you're already authorized to work in Canada under that offer. A job offer alone, without current Canadian work authorization, does not exempt you.

Whose family members count toward the family size?

You, your spouse or common-law partner, and all dependent children — whether or not they are accompanying you to Canada or included on your application.
