Items per sheet calculator.
How many cards, labels, flyers or photos fit on a sheet of paper, with gaps, margins and the best orientation.
Inputs
Fit
Enter the item size.
How do I work out how many items fit on a page?
Across the sheet, the number of items is the whole number of (item width + gap) that fit into the usable width plus one gap, where usable width is the sheet width minus the margin on both edges. The same sum is done down the page, and the two numbers multiply. The tool tries the item both ways round and keeps whichever fits more.
For example, an A4 sheet (210 x 297 mm) with a 10 mm margin and no gap holds 2 x 5 = 10 North American business cards (88.9 x 50.8 mm); the 10 mm margin leaves 190 x 277 mm.
Frequently asked questions
How many business cards fit on an A4 sheet?
With a 10 mm margin and no gap, 10 cards of 88.9 x 50.8 mm (2 across, 5 down). With 85 x 55 mm cards the same margin also gives 10.
How many 4x6 photos fit on a Letter page?
Two 4 x 6 in photos fit with a 0.25 in margin; set the item to 4 x 6 in and the unit to inches to check your own margins.
Does the gap count at the edges?
No. The gap is only between items; the margin sets the distance to the sheet edge.
Can I mix portrait and landscape items to fit more?
This tool does not. It compares all items upright against all items turned and keeps the better one.
Why is some paper left over?
Margins, gaps and the leftover strip at the end of each row or column. The leftover percentage includes all of it.

Scope
Sizes and results are arithmetic on published paper sizes and the numbers you enter. Printers and print shops set their own sizes, margins, bleed and resolution requirements, so confirm with yours before you print.
