Full moon and new moon calendar.

Choose a year and time zone to list every principal moon phase, with the next full moon and next new moon worked out from today.

Short answer: After the full moon on October 26, 2026 the next one is on November 24, 2026 at 14:53 UTC (9:53 am Eastern Standard Time). The December 2026 full moon is on December 24 at 01:28 UTC.

What the four phases are

The U.S. Naval Observatory publishes the instants of the principal phases: new moon, first quarter, full moon and last quarter. A lunation takes about 29.5 days, so there are 12 or 13 full moons in a calendar year and a gap of about a week between each phase. The Observatory gives times in Universal Time; this tool converts them to the time zone you pick, which can move a phase to the previous or next calendar day.

Worked example: the next full moon

On October 26, 2026 the full moon falls at 04:12 UTC, which is just past midnight local time in Toronto: 12:12 am EDT. The following full moon is on Tue, Nov 24, 2026, 14:53 UTC, which is Tue, Nov 24, 2026, 09:53 EST in Toronto and Tue, Nov 24, 2026, 06:53 PST in Vancouver.

A month with two full moons

The 2026 list has 13 full moons. Two of them fall in May by UTC date: May 1, 17:23 and May 31, 08:45. When a calendar month holds a second full moon, many people call it a blue moon. In a time zone far ahead of UTC the first of those could land on a different date, so the tool's zone setting matters for this kind of question.

Why dates differ between sources

Phase tables published in different zones can show different dates for the same event. Always compare using the same time zone, and use the UTC column when you need to match another table.

What this page does not cover

This is a table of phase instants, not a visibility guide. Moonrise, moonset and the percentage of the disc lit on a given day are covered by the moon phase calculator. The data covers 2026 to 2028.

Frequently asked questions

When is the next full moon?

The tool shows the next full moon from your device clock. After October 26, 2026 it is November 24, 2026 at 14:53 UTC, then December 24, 2026 at 01:28 UTC.

When is the full moon in December 2026?

December 24, 2026 at 01:28 UTC, which is 8:28 pm Eastern Standard Time on December 23.

When is the new moon in 2027?

Pick 2027 and New Moon in the tool for every date. The Observatory lists 12 or 13 new moons a year.

How many full moons are there in 2026?

The Naval Observatory table lists 13 for 2026, with two in May (May 1 and May 31 in UTC).

Why does the time zone change the date?

The Observatory publishes Universal Time. A phase at 01:28 UTC is still the evening before in North America, so the same moment can sit on different calendar dates.

Where does the data come from?

From the U.S. Naval Observatory Astronomical Applications Department Phases of the Moon service for 2026, 2027 and 2028, fetched on 26 October 2026.
