Days until Christmas.

How the count works

Christmas Day is December 25, which 5 U.S.C. 6103(a) lists among the federal holidays. The calculator turns your start date and the next December 25 into calendar days in UTC, subtracts them and divides by seven for weeks. Using whole calendar days keeps daylight saving changes from adding or removing a day. If your start date is after December 25, the target moves to December 25 of the following year, and on December 25 itself the answer is zero.

What "weekdays left" means

Weekdays are Monday to Friday dates from your start date up to, but not including, December 25. Public holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and the day after Thanksgiving are not removed. Use the business days calculator if you need to skip specific holidays.

Worked example: from October 26, 2026

October 26, 2026 is a Monday. The month has 5 more days after the 26th (to October 31), November has 30 and December contributes 25, which gives 5 + 30 + 25 = 60 days. Sixty days is 8 weeks and 4 days. Eight full weeks hold 40 weekdays, and the last 4 days (Monday, December 21 to Thursday, December 24) add 4 more, for 44 weekdays in total. December 25, 2026 falls on a Friday, so no federal observed day moves.

Weekend Christmases

When December 25 falls on a Saturday, U.S. federal employees observe the holiday on Friday, December 24; when it falls on a Sunday they observe Monday, December 26 (5 U.S.C. 6103(b)). December 25, 2027 is a Saturday. Private employers, banks and stores set their own closing days, so check them directly. The count above is always to December 25 itself.
