How it works

• The draw: names are matched by a randomized search that backtracks when it hits a dead end. Nobody draws themselves, and nobody draws someone they are paired with in an exclusion. Randomness comes from your browser’s crypto.getRandomValues. It is a fair party draw, not a proof that every possible outcome is equally likely.
• Reveal links: each link carries one person’s pairing in the part of the address after the #. Browsers do not send that fragment to a server in the request (RFC 3986, section 3.5), and this page stores nothing. It is encoded, not encrypted: anyone who has a link can read that one pairing, so send each link only to its owner.
• You can peek, too: you generated the draw, so you can see it. To stay surprised, do not press “Show full list”.
• Impossible draws: with too many exclusions no valid draw may exist (with three people, a single excluded pair already rules every draw out). The tool tells you when that happens.
• Print slips: prints one card per person; fold each before handing it over.
