How the RRSP deadline works
CRA splits an RRSP contribution year in two. The first period runs from the day after the previous year’s deadline to December 31. The second runs from January 1 to the 60th day of the following year, and money paid in that window can be claimed for the earlier tax year. The 60th day is March 1 in most years and February 29 in a leap year.
When the 60th day lands on a Saturday or Sunday, CRA ends the period on the first business day after it. That is why the 2024 tax year deadline was Monday, March 3, 2025, and the 2025 tax year deadline is Monday, March 2, 2026. For the 2026 tax year, March 1, 2027 is a Monday, so the deadline is March 1, 2027.
Whether you have room to contribute, and how much, is on your Notice of Assessment or in CRA My Account. This page only gives dates. A contribution must reach your plan issuer by the deadline, so allow time for a bank transfer to clear.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RRSP deadline for 2027?
For the 2026 tax year it is Monday, March 1, 2027. A contribution made on or before that date can be deducted on your 2026 return. A contribution made after it counts toward the 2027 tax year.
Why is the RRSP deadline sometimes March 2 or March 3?
The deadline is the 60th day of the year. If that day is a Saturday or Sunday, CRA ends the contribution period on the next business day, so it can be March 2 or March 3.
Can I contribute after the deadline and still deduct it for last year?
No. A contribution made after the 60th day of the year counts for the current tax year. You can still carry the deduction forward and claim it on a later return.
Is the RRSP deadline the same as the tax filing deadline?
No. The RRSP deadline is in early March. The filing deadline for most people is April 30, and June 15 if you or your spouse or common-law partner is self-employed.
