RRSP calculator Alberta: 2026 tax refund
A $10,000 RRSP contribution returns about $2,296 at $60,000 of income and $3,050 at $100,000 in Alberta (2026 federal plus provincial tax). Each dollar you deduct saves the combined federal and provincial rate at the income it comes off, so the refund blends the rates across the slice you deduct. Your marginal rate at $60,000 is 28.50% and at $100,000 is 30.50%; a deduction that crosses a bracket edge saves less than the top rate times the amount.

How the Alberta RRSP refund works
An RRSP contribution is a deduction, not a credit: it lowers your taxable income, and the tax you save is the federal plus Alberta tax on the income you no longer report. In other words the refund is the sum of your combined marginal rates over the slice of income you deduct, so it is at most your contribution times the marginal rate at the top of your income and is lower when the deduction crosses into a cheaper bracket. Enter the income you would otherwise be taxed on and the amount you will claim; the calculator prices the tax with and without the deduction using the 2026 federal and Alberta brackets.
Alberta taxes the first $61,200 of taxable income at 8% and the next bracket (to $154,259) at 10%, so the combined marginal rate is 28.50% up to $61,200 and 30.50% just above it. Alberta's basic personal amount is $22,769, so only federal tax applies between $16,452 and $22,769.
