Worked example
One child, no partner supplement, adjusted family net income of $60,000, July 2026 to June 2027. Formula (a): $1,750 − 4% × ($60,000 − $30,176) = $1,750 − $1,192.96 = $557.04. Formula (b): $775 − 4% × max(0, $60,000 − $96,562) = $775. The payment is the greater, $775 a year, or $64.58 a month. A single parent of two on $45,000 gets $2,850 + $500 − 4% × $14,824 = $2,757.04 a year ($229.75 a month).
The formula
Section 13.092 of the Income Tax Act (BC) sets each monthly payment at the greater of two amounts, each divided by 12:
- (a) maximum benefit + single-parent supplement − 4% of income over the first threshold ($30,176).
- (b) guaranteed minimum benefit − 4% of income over the second threshold ($96,562).
Maximum benefit is $1,750 for one child, $2,850 for two, and $2,850 + $900 for each child beyond two. The minimum is $775, $1,525, then +$725 per further child. The $500 supplement applies when you have at least one child and no cohabiting spouse or partner. For shared custody the payment is the average of the amount counting every child and the amount counting only children in your full care. Thresholds are indexed to inflation each year, and payments run July to June using the prior calendar year's tax return (the 2025 return for July 2026 to June 2027).

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to apply for the BC family benefit?
No separate application. You and your spouse or partner must file tax returns, and if your child is registered for the Canada child benefit they are registered automatically. The CRA calculates the amount and pays it with the CCB.
When is it paid?
Monthly, as a combined payment with the Canada child benefit, for a July to June benefit period. See the CCB payment dates tool for the schedule.
Is the BC family benefit taxable?
No. The BC government describes it as a tax-free monthly payment.
What changes in July 2027?
The BC government says a new B.C. children and youth disability supplement will be paid with the benefit from July 2027. It is not included here.

It does not calculate adjusted family net income, check residency or CCB eligibility, or model mid-year changes in family situation. The CRA decides your actual payment and may round it; confirm with the CRA or the BC government.
