Worked example

$240 of hair reused for 3 installs is $80 of hair per install. Add a $150 install fee and $25 of care: $255 per install. Worn 49 days (7 weeks) that is $5.20 per wear. Buying new hair each time costs $415 per install, $8.47 per wear, so reuse saves $160 per install and $480 over the three installs.

How it works

hair share = hair price / installs. cost per install = hair share + install fee + care. cost per wear = cost per install / days worn. Buying new each time = (hair price + install fee + care) / days worn. Saving = new-each-time cost minus reuse cost per install.

How many times hair can be reused depends on its quality, how it is cared for and the method. Enter your own number; a lower reuse count gives a more cautious result. For a single wig see the Wig Cost Per Wear Calculator.

Sources and basis

Checked 2026-10-15. Calculation: arithmetic on the figures you enter. For context on reuse, Cliphair: How Long Do Tape In Hair Extensions Last? says some of its tape-in ranges can be reused 4 to 8 times, a seller claim for its own products and not a rule for all hair. A lace front human hair wig lasts up to 3 years with occasional wear or up to 1 year with daily wear when well maintained, per Curl Centric: How Long Do Lace Front Wigs Last? Synthetic vs Human Hair Wigs.

Not financial advice. Reuse only hair that is still in good condition.

FAQ

How do I work out the cost per wear of bundles?

Divide the hair price by the number of installs you reuse it for, add the install fee and care cost for each install, then divide by the days you wear it.

How many times can I reuse bundles?

It depends on the hair, the care and the method. Cliphair says some of its tape-in ranges can be reused 4 to 8 times. Enter your own count.

Should care products be included?

Yes. Shampoo, conditioner and styling products used on the hair are part of what each install costs, so enter them per install.

Is reusing hair cheaper than buying new?

Usually the hair share falls as you reuse it, but install fees stay the same each time. This tool shows both so you can compare.
