Your scores

All on the same scale, for example percentages. Up to 100 scores.

Use this only for items that carry equal weight. Your syllabus decides what is dropped and when, so check it.

Your average

Fill the form and press Calculate.

Quick answer

Sort the scores, remove the lowest ones and average the rest. Scores of 70, 85, 92 and 78 average 81.25. Dropping the 70 leaves 85, 92 and 78, which average 85.

Worked example

Four quizzes: 70, 85, 92, 78. Average with all four: 325 / 4 = 81.25. Drop the lowest (70): 255 / 3 = 85.00, a gain of 3.75 points. Drop two (70 and 78): 177 / 2 = 88.50.

How it works

Average = sum of kept scores / number kept. The tool sorts the scores from lowest to highest, drops the first k and averages the remainder. When two scores tie, the one you typed first is dropped; the result is the same.

This is equal-weight arithmetic on a single scale. If items have different weights or different maximums, convert each to a percentage first, or use the Weighted Grade Calculator.

FAQ

How do I calculate my grade after dropping the lowest score?

Remove the lowest score and average the rest. For 70, 85, 92 and 78 that is (85 + 92 + 78) / 3 = 85.

Can I drop more than one score?

Yes. Choose how many to drop, as long as at least one score remains.

What if the assignments have different weights?

This tool treats every score as equal. For weighted categories use the Weighted Grade Calculator.

Does my course actually drop the lowest score?

Only if the syllabus says so. This tool does the arithmetic, not the policy.

Should the scores be percentages?

Use one scale for all of them. If some are out of 10 and some out of 50, convert them to percentages first.
