Two grading scales, side by side
Grading scales vary by institution, so this tool covers the two most commonly searched: the standard US 10-point scale used across most American schools, and the Ontario Ministry of Education's "Growing Success" achievement level scale used across Ontario's publicly funded schools. Pick the one that matches your school and enter the percentage.
Standard 10-point scale (US)
| Percentage | Letter grade |
|---|---|

| 80–89% | B |
| 70–79% | C |
| 60–69% | D |
| Below 60% | F |
Ontario / Canadian scale (Growing Success)
Ontario doesn't grade with letters directly — it uses four numbered "achievement levels" defined in the Ministry of Education's Growing Success policy, which most Ontario schools and parents informally map to letter grades as shown:
| Percentage | Level | Common letter |
|---|---|---|
| 80–100% | Level 4 | A |
| 70–79% | Level 3 | B |
| 60–69% | Level 2 | C |
| 50–59% | Level 1 | D |
| Below 50% | Below Level 1 | R |
Level 3 (70–79%) is defined as "the provincial standard" — the level of achievement the curriculum expects — with Level 4 surpassing it and Levels 1–2 approaching or below it.
Sources, and when they were checked
Both scales above were checked against these sources on 29 September 2026. Grading scales are set by individual institutions and can be changed at any time, so always confirm against your own school's syllabus or report card key.
