Quick answer

Pages per day = pages left divided by the days you have, rounded up. A 420-page book with 360 pages left and 30 days to read needs 12 pages a day. Switch the mode to enter your daily pages and get the finish date instead.

Worked example

A 420-page book, you are on page 60, so 360 pages are left. Start October 1, finish by October 30: that is 30 reading days counting both dates. 360 / 30 = 12 pages a day, or 84 a week. At 2 minutes a page that is 24 minutes a day. In the other mode, reading 25 pages a day takes 360 / 25 = 14.4, rounded up to 15 days, so you finish on October 15.

How it works

Pages left = total pages - current page. Deadline mode: pages per day = pages left / days, where days counts the start and finish dates, rounded up to a whole page. Pace mode: days = pages left / pages per day, rounded up, and the finish date is that many days from the start date, counting the start date as day 1.

Minutes per day = pages per day x minutes per page. To find your minutes per page, time a few pages, or use the Reading Speed Calculator and your words per page.

FAQ

How many pages a day do I need to read to finish a book?

Divide the pages left by the days you have, rounding up. 360 pages left in 30 days is 12 pages a day.

Does the start date count as a reading day?

Yes. Both the start date and the finish date count, so October 1 to October 30 is 30 days.

What if I do not read every day?

Count only the days you will actually read, or enter a pages-per-day figure that matches the days you read and ignore the calendar date.

How do I turn pages into minutes?

Enter your minutes per page. Pages per day multiplied by minutes per page gives the daily time.

Why is pages per day rounded up?

Rounding down would leave you a few pages short on the last day. The exact figure is shown as a decimal when it is not a whole number.
