UGC rates

UGC usage rights fee calculator.

The fee for making a video and the fee for letting a brand run it as an ad are different things. Set your base fee, choose a licence type and a term, and see the total with usage and exclusivity.

Usage fee = base fee x usage % x months, or a flat fee you choose. Exclusivity add-on = base fee x exclusivity % x months. A $300.00 base fee with 30% a month for 3 months and 10% a month of exclusivity for 2 months totals $630.00.

Worked example

Base fee $300.00. Paid-ad usage at 30% of base per month for 3 months: 300 x 0.30 x 3 = $270.00. Exclusivity at 10% per month for 2 months: 300 x 0.10 x 2 = $60.00. Total $630.00, or 2.1x the base fee.

Switch to the flat method and enter $400.00 instead: the total becomes $760.00. Set the term to 0 and the usage fee drops to $0.00, which is the case for content you only deliver.

How it works

A usage licence says where and for how long a brand may run your content. Paid-ad use, organic posting on the brand's own channels and whitelisting (ads that run from your own handle) carry different risk and visibility, so many creators price them separately. This page labels the licence type but does the same arithmetic for each; you set the percentage.

Vendors publish differing habits. One guide reports uplifts of roughly 30 to 50 percent on top of the base fee for paid-ad usage, and one calculator prices usage as a percentage per 30-day period multiplied by the number of periods. They disagree with each other, which is the point: treat them as examples to react to, not a rate card.

Exclusivity stops you working with competing brands for a period, so it is priced on its own. A longer term, a wider channel list or a perpetual licence are all reasons to move your percentage up or to switch to a flat fee.

Results vary. This model uses the assumptions you type in; it is not a prediction, a quote anyone has agreed to, or a promise of earnings. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent or stored.

Methodology

usage = baseFee x usagePct/100 x months (percent method) or the flat fee you enter; exclusivity = baseFee x exclusivityPct/100 x exclusivityMonths; total = baseFee + usage + exclusivity. The multiple of base and the average extra per usage month are derived from those. A base fee of zero is rejected, negative inputs are rejected, and zero months gives no usage fee.

FAQ

How do I price UGC usage rights?

A common method is a percentage of your base fee for each month of use, or a flat fee for a defined term. The percentage is a negotiation, so this calculator takes it as your input.

What is whitelisting in UGC?

Whitelisting usually means a brand runs ads through your social handle with your permission. Because the ad carries your name, many creators charge more for it, but how much is up to you.

Is 30 percent per month a standard usage rate?

No. It is an example one vendor calculator uses. Other vendors report different figures, so there is no standard to rely on.

What if the brand wants unlimited usage?

Unlimited or perpetual usage is usually priced as a single negotiated fee. Use the flat method and enter the figure you would accept.

Should I charge for exclusivity?

If a brand asks you not to work with competitors for a period, you give up other work, so many creators add a fee. The calculator lets you set the percent and the months.
