Worked example
2,000 clicks a month at a 2% conversion rate is 40 orders. At a $60.00 average order and an 8% commission rate, you drive $2,400.00 in sales and earn $192.00: $4.80 per order, $0.10 per click, $2,304.00 a year. After $50.00 of monthly costs, profit is $142.00.
How it works
Orders = clicks x conversion rate. Commission = orders x order value x commission rate. Earnings per click divides commission by clicks, which makes it easy to compare different pages or programmes. Clicks needed = goal / earnings per click.
Use the commission rate in your programme's terms. Returned or cancelled orders, tiered rates, flat-fee products and cookie windows change the real result, and none of them are modelled. This is an estimate, not a promise of earnings.

FAQ
How is affiliate commission calculated?
Orders times average order value times your commission rate. Orders are clicks times the share of clicks that buy.
What is earnings per click?
Commission divided by clicks. In the example it is $0.096 a click, so 1,000 more clicks add about $96.00.
How many clicks do I need for $500 a month?
With the example inputs you need 5,208 clicks a month.
Do returns reduce the result?
Yes, programmes usually claw back commission on returned or cancelled orders. Lower the conversion rate or the order value to allow for them.
