Worked example

10,000 sessions at 1.5 pages is 15,000 pageviews; at a $20.00 page RPM that is $300.00 from ads. A 2% click rate, 5% order rate, $100 order and 10% commission adds $100.00 of affiliate income, and one $200.00 sponsored post brings the total to $600.00. After $100.00 of costs, profit is $500.00 a month, and a $1,000 goal needs about 18,300 sessions at the same rates.

How it works

Page RPM is estimated earnings per 1,000 pageviews; session RPM is per 1,000 sessions. Google AdSense defines page RPM as estimated earnings divided by page views times 1,000. Pick the basis your ad dashboard reports and the tool converts using pages per session.

Every rate here is yours: RPM varies hugely by niche, country and season, and affiliate click and conversion rates depend on the offer. Use figures from your own dashboards, not benchmarks. Ad network RPMs are estimates and the real payment can differ.

The sessions-needed row holds your income per session constant and treats costs as fixed.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent or stored.

FAQ

How much traffic do I need to make money blogging?

It depends on your RPM and income sources. Divide your monthly goal plus costs by your income per session; the calculator does this for you from the rates you enter.

What is the difference between page RPM and session RPM?

Page RPM is earnings per 1,000 pageviews. Session RPM is earnings per 1,000 sessions, so it is higher when readers view several pages a visit. Choose the basis your dashboard reports.

Does this include AdSense or Mediavine specifically?

It works with any network because you enter the RPM. The Mediavine and Raptive checker on this site compares your traffic with their published requirements.

Is the result a forecast?

No. It is arithmetic on the numbers you type. Real income changes with season, traffic quality and ad demand.
