The tool: ATAP, with no registration

Arkansas checks refund status in the Arkansas Taxpayer Access Point (ATAP), reached from the "Where's my refund?" link on the DFA taxpayer services page. The AR1000F instructions note that registration is not required to make payments, check refund status or view 1099-Gs. ATAP also handles name and address changes and account letters; the note covers only payments, refund status and 1099-Gs.

This page does not touch ATAP or ask for your Social Security number. It takes the one date every other rule hangs on, the date you filed, and converts it.

Windows this tool uses

E-file: DFA publishes no separate e-file window. The only figure is the 10-week line at the end of the 2025 instructions. Paper: Allow up to 10 weeks, the line printed on the instructions' checklist before you mail a return.

The two lines on the calendar

The 2025 Arkansas instructions end with a single plain sentence: "Please allow up to 10 weeks for your return to process." It is printed on the checklist you read before mailing a return, and DFA gives no separate e-file number, so this page applies the same 10 weeks to every return and says so. Ten weeks is 70 days.

The second rule is about interest. Under Act 262 of 2005 the Secretary has 90 days from the return due date or the date the return was filed, whichever comes later, to refund an overpayment without paying interest. This is different from the 10-week allowance: 10 weeks is guidance for processing, 90 days is the point after which the state owes interest. For a return filed well before the deadline, the later of the two dates is the due date, so set the filing date in the tool to the due date if you filed early.

Set-off letters

If you, your spouse or a former spouse owe a debt to a listed agency, all or part of your refund can be withheld. The instructions name a long list: Arkansas Department of Human Services and Employee Benefits Division, the Office of Child Support Enforcement, the Internal Revenue Service, the Office of Personnel Management, the Department of Transportation, courts, colleges and universities, county tax collectors and more. You get a letter naming the agency that claimed the refund, and the instructions put the burden on that agency to refund any amount set off in error.

A rule worth knowing before you file, not after: if only one of two married taxpayers owes the debt, the other can avoid having their portion applied if both file using status 5, Married Filing Separately on Different Returns. A federal refund can also be captured to satisfy an Arkansas income tax debt.

Direct deposit that fails, and money you carried forward

Arkansas does not guarantee a deposit date. A refund that cannot be deposited (institutional refusal, wrong account or routing number, closed account, a bank merger) is issued as a paper check to the mailing address on the return. Deposits to accounts outside the United States, including Puerto Rico, are not made. The state is not responsible for a misapplied deposit caused by an error on the taxpayer's side.

Line 48 lets you apply part of an overpayment to your 2026 estimated tax. That money is credited to the primary filer only and cannot be divided with a spouse, so it will never be paid out as a refund.

Worked example (hypothetical dates)

Say you file on Feb 9, 2026 (and that is later than the due date). The 10-week mark is Apr 20, 2026, and the 90-day interest-free period ends May 10, 2026. A refund issued between the two is on time by the instructions' guidance and carries no interest; one still missing after May 10, 2026 is the point where the state owes interest. The filing date is hypothetical and the two rules are DFA's.

Common mistakes

Reading "10 weeks" as the date interest starts: it is the 90-day rule that governs interest. Calling the hotline at week three. Expecting a deposit on a precise day. Forgetting that a carry-forward on Line 48 reduces what you are owed in cash. Assuming a set-off was error without contacting the agency named in the letter.

Who this is for, and what it does not cover

It is for Arkansas AR1000F and AR1000NR filers waiting on a refund. It does not read your ATAP account, does not model the interest amount, and does not cover amended returns, which the instructions treat separately.
