Heavy highway vehicle use tax by weight and month, with the IRS due date.

Three obligations most interstate truckers track

IFTA is the fuel tax agreement: one quarterly return to your base jurisdiction covering every member state and province, due the last day of the month after each quarter. IRP is the registration agreement: fees are apportioned between jurisdictions by miles driven. Form 2290 is the IRS annual excise tax on heavy highway vehicles of 55,000 pounds or more, due by the end of the month after first use.

Rates and fees change. The IFTA rate pages here show the 4th quarter 2026 matrix, which IFTA says is not final until 4 December 2026, and the Form 2290 tool covers July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. These tools are worksheets, not filings, and are not affiliated with IFTA, Inc. or the IRS.
