How BC sets the limit
British Columbia's Residential Tenancy Branch publishes one allowable percentage per calendar year, applying to rent increases taking effect in that year. Landlords can only raise rent once every 12 months, can't round up when calculating the allowable amount, and can't carry an unused prior year's allowance forward into a later increase.
