Press Generate.

A random number from 1 to 1,000

Pressing Generate picks one of 1,000 numbers with an equal 1 in 1,000 (0.1%) chance each, using your browser’s secure random generator. The page draws one when it opens. Ask for more with How many, up to 10,000 at a time. With No repeats on, every number in the batch is different, and you can sort the list lowest or highest first.

Common uses for 1 to 1,000

Repeats in a larger range

Repeats are rare in a short run but not impossible. With repeats allowed, ten picks from 1 to 1,000 contain at least one repeat about 4.4% of the time, and 38 picks are the first batch size where a repeat is more likely than not (about 50.9%). If you need different numbers, tick No repeats.

For a custom range, decimals or negative numbers, use the full random number generator. Smaller ranges: 1 to 10 and 1 to 100.

Frequently asked questions

What is the chance of each number from 1 to 1000?

Exactly 1 in 1,000, or 0.1%, for every number from 1 to 1,000 inclusive.

How do I get several different random numbers from 1 to 1000?

Set How many and tick "No repeats". You can ask for up to 1,000 different numbers, and sort them lowest or highest first.

How likely is a repeat in 10 picks from 1 to 1000?

With repeats allowed, about 4.4% of the time. A batch of 38 is the first where a repeat is more likely than not, at about 50.9%.

How many guesses to find a number from 1 to 1000?

At most 10 if each guess halves the remaining range, because 2 to the power of 10 is 1,024, which is at least 1,000.

Is this generator random enough for a giveaway?

It is fair for informal giveaways. It is not an audited draw, so follow the rules that apply to your contest if it is regulated.

Method notes: MDN describes crypto.getRandomValues() as returning cryptographically strong random values and says Math.random() does not provide cryptographically secure numbers. The W3C Web Cryptography API says the implementation, not the page, selects the seed. Range mapping uses rejection sampling and the Fisher-Yates shuffle, and both are unit-tested. Repeat-chance figures use the standard birthday-problem formula and are unit-tested. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you enter or generate is sent anywhere or stored.

Scope

A general-purpose random tool for games, classrooms, sampling and everyday choices. It is not an audited lottery draw. For regulated contests, gaming or legal selections, follow the rules that apply to you.
