Baby name generator.
Pick a gender, an era, and an optional starting letter, and generate real baby names — ranked from actual U.S. Social Security Administration birth-record data, not a short invented list. Generate as many as you want and reroll any one you don't like.

How it works
- Real birth-record data: each era's name list is ranked by actual share of U.S. births in that decade, from the Social Security Administration's public-domain national baby names dataset (SSA card applications, 1880–2008 coverage used here) — the same source behind the widely-cited
babynamesresearch dataset. Not five names typed in from memory. - Four real eras: 1900s, 1950s, 1990s, and 2000s, each with its own top-60 boy and top-60 girl names by that decade's actual popularity — so a "1900s" pick reads like 1900s, not like 2020s.
- Starting letter filter: narrows either era list down to names beginning with a chosen letter, still picked at random with the browser's cryptographic random number generator.
- Reroll one at a time: don't like a name? Use the small reroll button next to it instead of regenerating the whole batch.
- Nothing saved or sent anywhere: names are generated entirely in your browser. Copy the ones you like before you leave the page.
Included

Name popularity data: U.S. Social Security Administration, National Data on relative name frequency (public domain / CC0), as compiled in the SSA-derived babynames dataset. This is a naming-idea tool, not a legal name registry — always check local birth-registration rules for any restricted characters or spellings.
