Worked example

Age 30, ordinary wages S$5,000.00. Total CPF = 37% × 5,000 = S$1,850.00; employee share 20% = S$1,000.00; employer share = S$1,850.00 − S$1,000.00 = S$850.00. Take-home before tax = S$4,000.00. Above S$8,000.00 of monthly ordinary wages no more CPF is due on the excess.

Lower wages: nothing at S$50 or less a month; the employer alone pays the total rate on wages above S$50 to S$500; between S$500 and S$750 the employee pays a share that phases in from nil. Rounding follows the CPF Board’s steps: total contribution to the nearest dollar, employee share rounded down, employer share the difference. Figures can differ by a dollar from the Board’s own calculator where ordinary and additional wages are paid in the same month.

Not modelled: Permanent Residents in their first or second year (graduated rates, unless the employer and employee jointly apply for full rates), the annual S$102,000 limit across months other than the simple assumption stated above, and the Board’s rates for years after 2026. Rates for older workers can change in later years; check cpf.gov.sg for the table in force.
